Couples Dance December 2007
Hello! I’m Mary Rogers, call me Grandma Rogers.
My beloved husband of 63 years passed away from Alzheimer’s in November 2008. For seven years I took care of him as his memory disapeared. This was the hardest and saddest experience of my life. Even as I write this in August 2009 my emotions are blunted and I still feel overwhelmed.
I was comforted when my Grandson Keith Rogers printed this article on “Caregiver Burnout” while he was visiting. It helped me understand what I felt, but the burnout remained. How could I ever beat burnout? I just got a pacemaker so I had to rest for six weeks, and even when I was better I was still lost. I didn’t know what to do with the rest of my life?
My 30-year old Grandson suggested making a list of 20 possibilities and to choose just one to act on. He titled it: “What can I do to add meaning to my life without alot of money?” I told him “I can’t think of one thing to do” (my burnout talking I guess). He suggesting painting, sketching and even needle point.
I told him how I wrote devotionals back before retiring in 1986. In fact I wrote hundreds of them and kept them in the cedar chest by my bed. I read him one and we both got excited! We stopped at number 4 on his list and I decided I would start writing devotionals again! I love to write after-all. I can write about anything I figured!
He said, “Grandma, that’s awesome! You HAVE to share these! People need to hear these!” Then he asked, “Do you know what a Blog or a Podcast are?” I replied “A PodWhat?” and the rest is history.
I hope you like them… please comment if you do!
God Bless! Love,
Grandma Rogers
PS: He says we are making this “Blog” first… then the “Podcast” will come later… Whatever that is… guess I will find out! XOXOXOXO
